So Far So Very Good
You look at the boxset cover or DVD covers of Barry’s Bootcamp 5-Day Academy and it might make you roll your eyes. There’s also the fact that I bought them from the Home Shopping Network. People with ripped clothes, sunglasses, and come hither looks hawking their wares on the telly do not usually sell workouts to me. But it wasn’t the cover that sold me. It was hearing all about BBC from numerous online friends from the Cathe forums. Fans of Cathe tend to be fairly hardcore fitness fanatics, so I knew if they were all raving about a workout, it was probably tough and effective. So I turned a blind eye to the goofy boxset cover and got the set. It didn’t hurt that it’s pretty cheap on HSN.com right now.
This is my first week doing BBC and I can attest that it is tough. The weight work is lightweight endurance weights, not heavy major strength-building weights, but man does it burn--they do so many reps and vary the moves so much. Each DVD also has two cardio workouts. One is for treadmills (I don’t have one) and one is without a treadmill--looks like very no-nonsense intense cardio, but I haven’t tried it because of my ankle issue. This seems to be a fabulous buy even if I’m only using it for weights right now. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a nice 5-day split.
The DVDs included are: Arms & Abs, Butt & Legs, Chest & Abs, Shoulders & Back (which I learned today also contains killer ab work), and Total Body. The Total Body workout uses body weight rather than dumbbells, but I haven’t tried that one yet.
