Amy Bento’s Advanced Step Challenge 2

Today I decided to get up off my heinie and do some fun step aerobics. I rested both Saturday and Sunday this weekend (oh yeah, and Friday, too) so I was due a good workout. I had a good excuse in being puny with illness, and I’m still not 100% but had enough energy and motivation to do something today.

So I broke out Amy Bento’s new step aerobics DVD: Advanced Step Challenge 2. I should start by saying that I also own her first Advanced Step Challenge and I’ve attempted it twice and gotten frustrated both times. But I ordered the new one anyway, and I still haven’t given up on the original.

I did the first 3 combos of ASC2 on Wednesday, but there are 5 combos so I was eager to do the whole workout today. I was pleased that I remembered enough from Wednesday that I didn’t have to pause and rewind any during those first 3 combos. I was far from perfect but kept up well enough that I could at least land close enough to where I was supposed to and carry on with the next move. Then I mastered combo 4 well enough, with only one time of a quick rewind at the beginning of the breakdown. Then she hit me with combo 5 and I was completely lost. I was also really tired, though, at that point. I could tell it was something I could eventually get. I might do combo 5 at the beginning next time so I can try it while I’m fresh. I think combo 3 was the most fun but at the same time the most exhausting. Whew.

I’ve read a lot of posts on forums about this set of workouts by Amy. Most people are pretty pleased, but there have been some complaints about the sound quality. I did notice that at certain points it was hard to hear Amy because the music was quite loud. I would prefer to have her voice a little louder, especially as I’m still learning the moves, but I was still able to follow along pretty well, so it wasn’t a big hindrance for me. I think the best recommendation I can make for this workout is that I would eagerly do it again tomorrow (but tomorrow I plan to start trying out Amy’s Slo-Mo Strength Challenge!)
