Pretty Good Day for Working Out and Eating

Today for my workout I did Tracey Staehle's new CircuitZone. I only did the 30-minute (or so) Fast premix, though. It was a decent workout but felt like just a taste of the full workout. She moves along at a good clip and uses a fun mix of equipment (but showing modifications using more standard stuff). I'll probably try the rest soon. I hope to add it to my Tracey Staehle worksheets soon and then I'll post the update to my Fitness Tools.

7 am: Coffee w/ raw sugar and skim milk
9 am: One scrambled Egg Beater, Kashi Heart to Heart Blueberry Clusters cereal with skim milk
11 am: Myoplex Lite Bar, banana
1 pm: Veggie soup (Progresso WW 0-pt soup), Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal
4 pm: Steamed broccoli (and this did such a number on my tummy--gas--eek), 1/2 fat cheddar cheese--small chunk, small cup unsweetened applesauce
7 pm: Protein pancakes (recipe from Eating for Life) with raspberries, strawberries, & sugar-free syrup--I had thi same dinner yesterday--had planned something else for tonight but changed mind. Hubby wasn't home for dinner so I wasn't making a big meal for the boys--decided to just heat up the second half of the pancakes.
9 pm: Dannon Light & Fit yogurt, glass skim milk

I got plenty of water today, so that's improved. I think I need to work on tipping my fruit/veg balance to more veggies. Of course with my sweet tooth I prefer fruit, and it's at least better than a lot of other stuff I could be eating.

First Day Back on Body for Life

Today I started Body for Life again. As I mentioned in a previous post, this time I'm not doing the workout plan (though I am working out, of course) but I'm focusing on the eating plan. (I got this idea from fellow blogger friend Betsy). So far so good. Of course it's only been one day.

Here's what I ate today:

7 am: Coffee w/ raw sugar and skim milk (nope, not ready to give up my coffee--rarely have more than half the cup I pour every morning, though)
8 am: Kashi Go Lean Crunch w/ blueberries & skim milk
11 am: Special K protein bar
2 pm: Tuna salad (OK, not much of a salad--just tuna, mustard, dill relish), apple w/ Tbsp. peanut butter
5 pm: Cottage cheese, carrots
7 pm: Protein pancakes (recipe from Eating for Life) with raspberries, strawberries, & sugar-free syrup
9 pm: Dannon Light & Fit yogurt

This was all pretty close to plan, though maybe I could have done a better tuna salad. Also, I drank water but not as much as I should. I'll do better on that tomorrow.

I keep forgetting I need to add more recipes to the lists I started on my Fitness Tools Available to Download page. Does anyone have more to send me?

This Week's Meal Plan

This week I am experimenting with creating a Body for Life meal plan for the whole week in advance, much like my fellow blogger friend Betsy. I confess I even copied a lot of Betsy's style, though I can't get it quite as tidy as hers. :) Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?

Let's see if I can upload it here. Click on it to see it larger.

I admit it is a bit repetitive, but in spite of my need for variety in workouts, I don't need much variety in eating, at least not within one week. So we'll see how this goes.

This Week's Workout Plan--Revised

Today I was supposed to do Cathe Friedrich's Low Impact Circuit workout, but instead I did some gardening and took a nap. Hey, at least I got something done. Anyway, tomorrow was supposed to be a rest day, so I'll go ahead and do a workout tomorrow instead. I think I'll do Ellen Barrett's Fat Burning Fusion. Then this is what I'll start on Monday:

MONDAY..............In the Ring (Amy Bento)
TUESDAY.............Circuit Zone (Tracey Staehle)
WEDNESDAY.......Walk--weather was beautiful so I changed my plan for the day--plus the ankles are still a little funky-feeling
THURSDAY..........Low Impact Circuit (Cathe Friedrich)
FRIDAY.................Yoga Class or 20 Min Yoga Makeover: Weight Loss (Sara Ivanhoe)
SATURDAY...........Muscle Max (Cathe)--my favorite weights workout
SUNDAY...............Rest

My left ankle is still a little swollen, so I'm going to be careful not to go too high impact. Luckily it feels fine it just looks puffy.

I've already made changes since I received a new Tracey Staehle workout today (Monday) that I want to try tomorrow.

Spider-Man Demonstrates Yoga Poses Part 3

Well, Spider-Man and I found out today that we're going to have to wait for the August Cathe Road Trip, which we can't sign up for until next week. We really wanted to sign up today for the July trip, but alas, no such luck. My hubby is not sure he can be available to watch the kids for the July one, so we must wait. So Spidey and I decided to relax by doing some more yoga. Here are a few of his poses.

Here Spider-Man demonstrates the Warrior I pose. He should be just looking up or something but instead he's looking toward the camera--such a show-off.

Now Spidey shows us his lovely Warrior II pose. Not bad, dude.

Spider-Man seemed to enjoy these twisting poses, but I think it would have been more correct if he'd bent his knees. He has wonky knees like me, though, so he prefers not to bend them sometimes.

I have lots more to teach the S-Man, so you can expect more photos soon.

Restarting Body for Life?

I think I'm actually going to try Body for Life again. I know I fizzled out at 6 weeks last time. This time I'm going to try just the meal plan (which even when I quit seemed like such a darn good idea). I was inspired by a post by fellow fitness blogger Betsy, who is winding up her first week of the BFL meal plan but is not following the workout plan (but like me she works out on her own already). I have to admit I got pretty bored with the BFL workouts, just because I love a huge variety of workouts. I also had my issues with injuries and so forth (which are ongoing, of course). So now I'm going to focus on the eating part, and be a little more careful with it. I'll be starting on Monday because that's always the day I start stuff. I promise not to go nuts over the weekend, though.

I've enjoyed some decent workouts this week and stuck to my plan except for yesterday. I spent so much time traveling to visit with a friend that my planned workout didn't happen. Tomorrow I'll be doing Cathe's Low Impact Circuit, which is one of my all-time favorite DVDs and no sissy workout for being low impact.

Stay tuned--I've got some more Spider-Man yoga pose pics to post--perhaps tonight.

Obese America

I have several blogs I read daily (or as often as they have new posts). I keep track of them all with the handy Google Reader. One of these is the Blog of Stowers by one of my friends. I liked something she posted there today so I'm also sharing it here as well. Hmm, I don't currently see it on her blog but I swear I saw it there earlier.

On the map above you can see 2006 rates of obesity across the U.S. Go here to see a slide show of the changes since 1985.

This Week

Here's the plan for this week. I'm trying to ease my ankle back into regular workouts. I already took a long-ish walk today around the village. As spring arrives I spend more and more time out of doors and walking. It was a beautiful day for a walk.

MONDAY.................Body Max 2 Upper Body only (Cathe Friedrich)
TUESDAY................Walking for Weight Loss (Debbie Rocker) or Amy Bento's Advanced Step Challenge 2 (modified for low impact) if feeling stronger
WEDNESDAY..........Butts & Guts premix (Cathe)
THURSDAY.............In the Ring (Amy Bento)
FRIDAY....................Yogini Workout (Ellen Barrett)
SATURDAY..............Low Impact Circuit (Cathe Friedrich)
SUNDAY..................Rest

So today I get to do a Cathe workout, which is almost always motivating for me since I just love Cathe. I really love the upper body work from Body Max 2, partly because she uses the stability ball, partly because you don't need a huge variety of dumbbells, and partly honestly just because it's not too long. It's tough without too much dread factor. It's perfect for working back into more Cathe workouts.

Spider-Man Demonstrates Yoga Poses Part 2

I've got some more Spider-Man yoga poses to share. I considered using Wonder Woman to do some more poses, but it turns out she's not nearly as flexible as Spidey. She can't even bend her knees, poor thing. I'll keep looking through the toy box. Perhaps Superman can share some moves.

Wow, Spider-Man can do some great splits. I'm very impressed as I've never mastered this, even as a flexible little kid. Tracy Effinger insists you can work up to doing them, but I guess I haven't done her Squeeze workout enough for that.

Unfortunately, the S-Man really sucks at balance, so he had to hang on to one of my lovely white Fiesta mugs for some moves. You may not be able to tell, but in that pic on the left he's holding his left foot behind him with his right hand. When my ankles are in good shape, I can do this easily without mug assistance. I totally kick Spidey's butt on this move. He also had to balance against the mug for that move on the right. However, I don't think I could achieve that move even with something to lean on, so I bow to his greatness on that pose.

Ah, the Shavasana or Corpse pose. This is both the hardest and easiest pose of yoga. Easy because you just lie there like a corpse. Hard because you're supposed to relax and empty your mind or some crazy crap like that. I both love it and loathe it because I totally get the monkey mind and have trouble stopping the brain-rambling. Spider-Man would like to share a post from one of his favorite blogs about this pose.

Spider-Man Demonstrates Yoga Poses

OK, here are some Spider-Man yoga poses. I can't remember what some of them are called--a sign that it's been too long since I went to a yoga class (my home workouts don't quite count).

For example, don't know what this is called but he does it very well, doesn't he?

This one might actually be a Pilates move.

Here Spider-Man shows off his flexibility. Like me, he is most flexible in the hips (but fails miserably in other ways, also like me).

I've got some more lovely Spider-Man poses, but I'll save those for another post. He's busy practicing a pretty zany pose right this minute. He's eager to improve his flexibility before attending a Cathe Road Trip (I'm really hoping we get to go this summer!)

Cathe Road Trip!!!

I am pretty excited about the possibility that I might get to attend a Cathe Road Trip this summer! She's actually planning two! If you care, then you probably already know that, anyway. I'm still working on convincing my hubby that it's worth the money and to get him to watch the boys for that weekend. I hope to go to the one in July, so we'll see if it happens.

I'm working on a new silly project to add to the blog (haven't had enough fun around here lately). I've taken some pictures of one of my sons' Spider-Man action figures doing various yoga poses. I'll post some of them tomorrow. Meanwhile you can enjoy the picture here of Spider-Man. You can see he is also excited about the upcoming Road Trip possibilities. Woot!
